Day Twenty-One

A better night’s rest!  This morning after breakfast we decide to go to Austin.  There should be some good music there and it is the State Capitol.  It is a beautiful day and we are off on another adventure.  Sometimes the signage gets a bit confusing though.  Not really sure why they need this sign but these signs are all over Texas.

A short drive to Austin and it is not anything like we thought it would be – there is so much traffic and construction and it is difficult to navigate.

The construction barriers and traffic are overwhelming and we have trouble finding our way though the maze.  The GPS tries to keep up with the lane changes etc. but also has a rough time – she is slow to respond and then we pass the exit.  Not finding an easy way to turn around and get acclimated we decide to forego Austin this time and head northeast to Waco.  We have been watching Chip and Joanna Gaines show on HGTV – Fixer Uppers and is based in Waco.  Dale is especially excited to get to Joanna’s newest endeavor – a cupcake shop!

The traffic becomes less crowded and we find we are in time for lunch.  Waco is also the home to Baylor University!

Chip bought The Silos for Joanna’s home decorating business.  We are excited to see the sign from downtown Waco that is in the opening shots for their tv show as well as the familiar silos.

Although traffic has been lighter on the expressway, the traffic around The Silos is pretty busy.  We are lucky enough to find a spot just down the street from Magnolia’s (Joanna’s shop) and Dale spots the Cupcake shop.

There is quite a line around the side of the bakery but it just doesn’t matter – cupcakes are so worth the wait!  As we take our place in line we are handed a card to fill our for our order.  It is a good thing there is a line because there are so many choices!

Once inside the doors we are greeted with wonderful aromas and a happy bustle of customers and employees.  So much to take in!

    Our order!

We should mention they also sell cookies – Dale is eager to try them in the courtyard that is right outside the bakery.

There is so much more to see – we stroll through a park-like area that clearly invites everyone to stay and play and eat and just have fun.

WOW!  Dale made our Cornhole Boards for a lot less than $170.00/pair!

Places to sit and eat – so now what to do about lunch?  Once again – too many choices!

The Hot Dog House catches our eye and we enjoy a Texas Hot!  Another train passes and brings our attention to the skyline – Baylor University!   Now it is time to explore.

Even Chip has a piece of Magnolia’s!

Chip’s favorite day in house renovation is “Demo Day” – let the demolition begin!

As we leave this fabulous place we are energized by the strong sense of community, positivity and beauty.

Since our plans have changed and we are not staying in Austin we make our way out of Waco and head towards Dallas.

We decide to stay in Waxahachie for the night.

Leftovers warmed up in the microwave and time to savor the coveted cupcakes from The Silos Bakery.  Tonight – Shiplap!

No words needed here!  YUM!
