Day Seven

Day 7 – September 15, 2018

We wake up to puppies scratching at the door and happily open the door to get puppy kisses.

Time to text the Carolina folks to see how they are doing.  Myrtle Beach cousins are in Savannah unable to return home as the police/National Guard have the road blocked.  NC relatives are without power but dry and safe.

Jason needs to go to work and Kate needs to do some work remotely as well.  We get our laundry together and get a load done.

Nevada was one of the first state to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes and has now opened that even further for recreational usage.  We have an opportunity to get a tour of a local facility and the process of cannabis growing.  Ever so curious we decide to go.

Wow!  This place is huge – warehouse type with offices and then lots of different rooms for the different phases of production.

Signs about wearing gloves everywhere.  We are told the plants should not be touched by hand because of the oils we transmit through touch.

There is a lot of science involved – pH levels, appropriate light rays at just the right height and for just the right amount of time, air temperature, humidity levels, trimming, watering, harvesting, drying, and then packaging.  We didn’t know there were so many different varieties!  But these varieties are unlike other things we might be familiar with growing – for instance, all the vegetables in our garden get the same amount of sun and water etc.  But here, for production, each variety of cannabis can be treated differently, dependent on the yield.  We had no idea of the complexity of growing “weed”.

There are many end products – sprays, lotions, creams etc.  to relieve pain, arthritis, and other medical issues.  Although we have been told the medicinal market has not been explored or developed to its potential, opting instead for the more lucrative recreational market.  Too bad, us senior citizens might be open to a lotion or cream to help with arthritic issues or neuropathic issues.

Very educational and informational.  Wish we had paid more attention to science when in high school!  No free samples at the end of the tour!

Then we are off to lunch at Lazy Dog.

We have been here several times before and the food never disappoints!  We start off with Grilled Artichokes steamed with lemon + fresh herbs, charred on the grill, served with roasted garlic tahini.  What a treat – so very good!

Buffalo Cauliflower & Chicken Lollipops

Tex-Mex salad

Burger w/ sweet potato tots

Bunless burger w/fries

No room for desert at this meal – too stuffed!

We notice a load of new building and construction in this area – a new ballpark and a new hockey venue.  Vegas is expanding!

We spend the rest of the day just enjoying the warm weather, the sun, and oh yes – a tiny lizard that the dogs are trying to play with on the patio.

Homemade pizzas for dinner – and a salad – and a great way to end another nice day.
