So – Lubbock, Tx – what to do! After breakfast we look through the AAA tour book and find that the Buddy Holly Museum is here! So excited to see this exhibit we charged the cameras, packed the car, and were ready to roll!!
So much too see – the outside of the museum has a huge replica of Buddy Holly’s glasses and a courtyard for dining and music!
There is a brief video of Buddy’s life and then you walk through several rooms with his discography, history, fascinating facts not many know – like he was married! And of course, his music!
Buddy and the Cricketts were quite the hit in the late fifties – and then of course, that fatal plane crash. Such a short career (18 months) and such an extraordinary influence on so many artists. The testimonials from the Beatles, Rolling Stone, and his trip to Europe were incredible! Such a great exhibit and so soulful!
We want to stay and listen to every song, but the Gift Shop is calling! After a few small items, we inquire about a good lunch spot. The ladies at the museum recommend the Cast Iron Grill right next door – so we try it!
There are all sorts of boots hung from the ironworks in the ceiling! Taco salads were huge and delicious!
Everyone was so upbeat, happy, and positive it would be impossible to have a bad time here! And there were so many little signs to read:
Feeling a huge lack of music on this trip – we head to Best Buy to get another Amazon Echo – sadly they (as well as almost every Best Buy on the planet) are out of the Echo but they do have the Amazon Dot – we opt to try that since it will pack easily for future travels! Success – it works. Let the good times roll!
Stay in Lubbock for the night and get set to travel to Albuquerque tomorrow.
