Day One – September 12, 2022

Loading the car was no easy task – and this is our first attempt. Good luck finding the necessities! Not knowing exactly where we will be on this adventure makes it a bit more challenging to prepare – but we are ready for heat, or cold, or lack of amenities (we think)! After already driving cross country three times you would think we would have this packing task well planned – looking at the photos – NOT!

The day is dismal and dreary with rain in the forecast – not an optimal start but at least it is not a downpour or a storm. Most of the trip is uneventful – reaching Buffalo without any rain. But as we approach Fredonia and the State Line our luck changed.

Fortunately by the time we got to the PA State Line the skies were still overcast but no rain!

After a quick stop at the Welcome Center we are off and heading for Mackinaw City, Michigan. As luck would have it our friends from Virginia are vacationing nearby Mackinaw City and we are hoping to meet up with them! Also we have been talking about visiting The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island for years – ever since we saw the movie “Somewhere in Time.” This is our big chance and we are excited to see all the sights.

Smooth sailing through Ohio and into Michigan but we encountered a one hour three minute delay around Monroe, MI due to construction. This puts us in later than we expected but still in day light. As we approach Mackinaw City the rain begins again – and really continues all night.

We check into the Bridge Vista Beach Hotel and wow – what a room – a king suite on the second floor corner with views of Lake Huron, The Bridge, ferries, and marinas. Simply beautiful views whichever way we look!

We were able to meet our friends and meet new friends as well – a very happy reunion and a lot to catch up on!

It’s been a very long day and we are beat – since the weather looks wet and dreary for tomorrow we decide to extend our stay here one more day. Hoping for a great night of sleeping.
