Day Nineteen

We were certain we would wake up sore and achy from our water adventure – but NOT!  Time to decide where to next – since we are so close to Brownsville – why not there?  The Weather Channel talks about them all the time!

We will need to stop at CVS for some more decaffeinated Coke though.  And maybe at the souvenir shop for some towels – they are advertised 3 for $10.00 – great for pool side.

As we make our way over the bridge the weather changes a bit and it looks like sea mist is covering the road.

Why is it a place that advertises seafood and bait in the same shop doesn’t sound like a good idea?

This is part of a channel restoration project.

We are told this is the Shrimp Capital of the World and they export over 60% of the world’s shrimp from this area.  Now we see the shipping industry in play as well.

More rail transportation!  And more local industry.

Here we are in Brownsville, TX!

A lot of billboards and other signage.  We are so close to the Mexican Border!

Do we want to jet into Mexico while we are right here?  That would mean we have to unpack the back of the car at the Border in order to get to our Passports. Not being sure the Mexican Border Police have that type of sense of humor – we opt not to go to Mexico this trip.

Seriously?  We are not in Roswell!! Are we??

Or are they just following us – again?

Not sure what to make of this particular sign!

A beautiful Spanish influence home as we make our way out of Brownsville.

How is this possible?  In the same block no less!!!

And we are now on our way to?  How about San Antonio?  We had hoped to get to San Antonio when our grandson was stationed there – but we did not make it before he transferred to Tacoma, WA.

A world famous golf course is here!

This business takes up a lot of real estate.

So many people have been talking about living in the Valley and things to do in the Valley!  What valley?  It is so flat here – how could anything be construed as a valley?  And then it dawns on us – the Rio Grande Valley.  Again – valley?

Not again!

This is a much bigger operation than the others we have been through.

Same routine – the dog excitedly sniffs around each vehicle and the Federal Agent asks if you are a US Citizen.  Maybe we should say no this time and see what happens?  Maybe not.  We move on.

Competition for Route 66?

More rail commerce.  Is there anything you can’t get at Whataburger?

If you put this next to a Whataburger you could have it all!

The Evacuation signs are everywhere and the shoulder becomes a third lane in case of weather.

Speaking of weather – the skies are getting darker and darker as we make our way north.  Not liking that look too much.

Based on the Weather Channel updates and the skies ahead, we opt to stay in Pleasanton, TX which is just south of San Antonio instead of pushing to the north side of San Antonio.  We find a reasonable place to stay and call it a night.
