Not such a great night’s rest here in New Orleans. We were on the 4th floor and the building would shake once and then an hour or so later, shake again – repeat, repeat. BUT – we were able to move clothes from suitcases to our new dressers and get the car re-packed.
Off to the French Quarter and pre-Mardi Gras preparations.
What surprised us the most was the way so many people were living – there were tents in the parks, tents under the bridges, a lot of homeless people. Very sad to see such poverty.
Off on the I-10 towards Lafayette, LA and we spot a billboard promoting a local restaurant for lunch. Okay – we try Steamboat Bill’s! A fun place where you place your order and then grab a table so they can bring your food. Crawfish were $5.99/lb so that was very popular but we didn’t know how to eat them! Most people were ordering 4 pounds at a time. Shrimp tacos were great and the Chicken Baked Potato, which was at least 8 inches in diameter were all good as well. Mardi Gras decorations abound!
We were trying to avoid Houston as they were rumored to have at least 1 million visitors for the Super Bowl. Traffic is pretty heavy and we see lots of cars with Falcons flags and also Patriots flags. Not Green Bay – don’t care! So we headed south to Lake Jackson, which is an hour from Galveston.
Stopped here for the night!
