Day Two – September 13, 2022

It is still raining and we are so-o glad we extended our stay here in Mackinaw City by one more day. Traveling to Mackinaw Island on the Ferry would be miserable in a cold, driving rain. SO – we decide to work more on the blog. We knew it would be a rough day because we haven’t done this in over two years and trying to remember all the little intricacies of layout and categories etc. is a bit of a reach for total recall on “how to.” After quite a bit of time poking around, downloading a new version of Word Press and setting up the printer we were able to get started.

We take a lot – I mean a lot – of photos. So downloading them all onto a thumb drive and then sorting through them and choosing some to include take some time. But we think we are good to go! But wait – there is unfinished business that demands our attention. Not sure how familiar you might be with insurance in Florida -but the state is experiencing a mass exodus of Home Owners insurance companies. We received a letter of non-renewal in May and have been trying to resolve this with our insurance agency. Here it is mid-September with an expiration date of September 29th and we have yet to talk to our renewal policy agent. We keep getting put off with “he will call you later today, or later this week at the latest.” He still hasn’t called. We found a different insurance company that is much closer to our Florida home and called them. What a huge difference in service – within one week we have had a 4-point inspection, a new homeowner’s policy, and she was able to combine auto insurance for a better price. We are now totally covered! Whew – what a relief. But, also extremely challenging when you are not home and on the road. Luckily we have a very fast internet connection here, a very friendly local post office, a lovely woman at the hotel desk that helped us make copies.

The rain has stopped, the sun is shining, and we need a break. Time to explore Mackinaw City! We drive down several streets and find a park. We didn’t realize there was also a State Park with historical significance until we were walking through – what a wonderful find! Peaceful, beautiful, and full of great signage and explanations.

Onto a little more exploring and then dinner at The Hook which is right in the midst of the marinas and ferry services.

A very nice dinner with a great view! And then back to our hotel room.

What a beautiful evening!

We have purchased our ferry tickets for tomorrow and also carriage ride tickets once on Mackinaw Island. We still need to get to the Post Office and mail some documents – they open at 8:30am so we will do that on our way to the ferry. Time for a good night’s sleep!
