Blue sunny skies and we pack up to leave this part of Texas. Where to go next? We should probably think about heading back to Florida one of these days.
Shreveport, LA it is! Never been on this road before.
The road is good and we leave industries behind and head into cattle country. We also pass through Miranda Lambert’s hometown! Waving hi and goodbye to her, we see more trains. You just don’t see this going North and South – there is a lot more truck traffic on the North-South roadways – not rail.
Spring and oil in the air!
Pretty through this area of Texas – very different. We didn’t know Amazon had their own trucks!
All through the South there are a lot of mobile homes/trailers. This appears to be a more affluent area.
More livestock as we pass through. Just how many miles are there on this road in Texas?
The ranches seem to have some sort of crest to signify their names.
More railroad work! And more miles in Texas. When do we get to Louisiana?
We see quite a few places where they have a “controlled” or “prescribed” burn. More miles.
This road goes on forever!! Surely if we take enough pictures of mile markers we will capture the last miles of Texas!
This is it! We are now in Louisiana!! Goodbye to Texas (for now)!!
We stop at the Visitor Center to get an idea of what we might see ahead.
This sign looks familiar but we have not been this far north in Louisiana before!
All things Mardi Gras! Just getting geared up for the many parades and festivities. The South truly knows how to celebrate Mardi Gras.
We want to see more of Louisiana – we ask about Shreveport, LA. The young man at the Visitor Center said that the main reason people visit Shreveport is to gamble at the many casinos. That is not really our thing but there must be more to the city than just gambling.?
As we make our way into downtown Shreveport we see quite a bit more – is that the Eiffel Tower of the South? And look at the street lamps! And the architecture!
We think we will stop here for lunch – and perhaps stroll around a bit. Dale is reading the AAA Tour Book about the Red River District. Let’s check it out.
We see an interesting place across the street from the Psychic Corner – we foresee a great meal!
Okay this is definitely more than interesting! Check it out!
These specialties could cause a world of hurt!
Our favorite new acronym: W.C.Doan – we couldn’t decide on a name. Hilarious!
A lot going on in this place!
Ah – the Psychic Corner was right – a great meal! Plus gumbo! YES!! But we will need to walk off some of these calories! We set out to further explore the Red River District.
But first we need to put our leftovers in the car refrigerator.
OH NO! Nancy can’t find her Nikon camera. We hurriedly head back to the Blind Tiger and find the camera on the chair where she left it. Tsk tsk girl. Shouldn’t have poked fun at the Psychic Corner! A huge wave of relief rolls over us and we proceed with our exploration.
So the idea is to create commercial space underneath the bridge (2 lanes both directions).
There is a lot of space down here and already filling up with restaurants, artwork, and performing arts areas.
As we are leaving the area beneath the bridge we see so much more!
And the variations in the architecture.
It seems there is a lot more to Shreveport than casinos – at least for us!
As we leave Shreveport we get a better idea of what the Visitor Center guy was talking about.
Since casinos and gambling are not that interesting to us we decide not to stay the night here and drive further east.
A lot different than casinos!
Couldn’t resist the sign of a college in Monroe! We decide to stay here for the evening. Pretty uneventful as we make a quick trip to Target for paper towels, F’breeze, and the first Pepsi in weeks. Coca Cola seems prevalent throughout the south and southwest.
Always time for a cupcake!
